From Basel takes the city of Basel as starting point for a multidimensional and multivocal study. It is arranged as an interplay between texts and images: A portrait of Herzog & de Meuron whose works have inscribed themselves in the city’s landscape which has grown into a trinational metropolis. It traces the physiognomy of an expanded historical territory, both monumental and intimate. 

The book consists of three individual parts: an essay by Jean-François Chevrier on the topic of local / global, a biography of the city of Basel through the voices of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, and a conversation between the author and both of them covering and summarizing the scope and topics within their exchange between 2010 and 2016. 

Photographs by Georges Dupin have been exclusively taken for the publication. They are complemented by a special selection of photos from Pierre de Meuron. 
The book is available in three separate language editions: French, German, English.
